Disaster recovery planning: Chilling lessons played out in the movies

Some of the most chilling of disasters are played out on the big screen. This Halloween, a business continuity expert looks at some of the scariest movies ever and explains what they can teach us about how to plan for the worse.

As one of the scariest movies of all time, The Exorcist was a movie with a message: Never underestimate a demon. That same advice can be applied to planning for a disaster. In fact, there are a slew of correlations between disaster recovery planning and the frightening scenarios played out on the big screen.

So in recognition of Halloween, SearchCIO-Midmarket.com has taken a lighter approach to discussing disaster planning and recovery, asking IBM's business continuity expert Pat Corcoran to talk about movies and the lessons they can teach CIOs about how not to get spooked by the disaster ghouls.

BIOGRAPHY: Corcoran is a global client solutions executive with IBM Global Technology and Business Continuity & Resiliency Services. A 32-year IBM veteran, he led numerous efforts to create a number of new programs, including business recovery services. During the past 19 years, Corcoran has been on the senior leadership team for IBM Business Continuity and Resiliency Services as the director of business strategy, marketing and business development. During this time, Corcoran also led IBM's support efforts in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and Hurricane Katrina. In his current position, Corcoran is responsible for leading IBM teams in the development of integrated business continuity solutions for clients that require a solution across multiple countries.
