- Superdome is a high-end 64-bit, Hewlett-Packard (HP) PA-8600 processor-based UNIX server designed for
e-commerce customers using very large databases. Superdome is available
in three configurations and comes bundled with HP's e-service software
packages and customer support options. The server is set to run on
HP-UX 11i, HP's version of Unix, but is intended to be compatible with
Windows
and Linux operating systems sometime in the future. One of Superdome's main features is
the ability to be split into several partitions, each with its own
operating system. Partitions defined in hardware can be further
subdivided into software-based virtual partitions which
allow resources, such as processor power or communication bandwidth, to be
assigned to specific jobs.
