New salary survey: What's hot -- and not

The Foote Research Group this week released its latest salary and survey results. To learn more about the hottest new skills and certifications, check out Hot new skills drive IT salaries up for complete coverage.

The following categories are showing the greatest growth:

  • Applications development tools and languages
  • Messaging, e-mail and groupware skills
  • Networking and Internet-working skills
  • Enterprise applications development skills

These skills are registering as 'stone cold':

  • WML
  • PowerBuilder
  • Perl
  • HTTP
  • HTML
When it came to certified skills, these categories showed greatest growth:
  • Applications development, programming languages certifications
  • Networking certifications
  • Systems administration and engineering; and network IS
  • Database certifications
Finally, the highest paying skills are shown here -- starting with the highest:
  • Project-level security
  • RAD/Extreme Programming
  • VoIP
  • Storage/SAN
  • Gigabit Ethernet
  • IBM WebSphere
  • Oracle DB and Applications
  • SQL Windows
