In the supply chain applications space we see three significant issues in 2003:
An increasing number of enterprises will create a common infrastructure on which they can run, integrate, and interoperate business processes that can be shared internally across divisions and externally with suppliers.
Shelfware will be a major issue. With many enterprises holding off buying new applications, look for them to deploy internal "SWOT teams" to find unused technology investments, and develop the process flows and templates to better leverage this existing technology.
The emergence of the "hybrid" supply chain vendor. These firms - which grow by going beyond applications and offering systems integration and consulting services to help develop the process flows - will weather the storm better than those that are solely focused on applications.
