tweetchat

Contributor(s): Emily McLaughlin

A tweetchat, also called a tweet jam, is a discussion carried out on Twitter.

Formal tweetchats are arranged in advance, often occurring regularly on a certain day at a specific time. A moderator oversees the chat and focuses the conversation on a specific discussion topic by sharing in advance a predefined hashtag. An end user can log into Twitter and search for the hashtag or simply respond to the moderator's tweets if they are already following the moderator. Tweetchat participants can also engage with other Twitter members who have used the hashtag.

The term tweetchat should not be confused with the third-party Twitter application TweetChat.com, which helps end users follow hashtags and converse online in real-time.
